All about Black Rabbit Shinden II Pants
Look: A welt-pocketed work pant based on an original style.
Fit: The Shinden II features a tapered leg with a lot of space in the thigh. The pattern was cut to give the look of a high-waist work pant, worn low. It is designed to have a “dirty” silhouette with folding and bulk around the knee and calf. The crotch features an eye shaped insert known by Black Rabbit as the “Catfish Crotch.” This insert stops lateral tension along the crotch seam, which can lead to tearing. The Catfish Crotch distributes tension longitudinally along its twin seams.
Construction: Stitched with durability in mind, utilising heavy T90 thread to match the heft of the canvas’s weave. Shinden features an extensive use of seam binding on the inside – even the crotch insert is bound for a clean finish. The knee is made of double fabric, which both reinforces the knee, and accentuates the silhouette. The centre-front is constructed with a inside “jigger” button which helps keep the front clean looking.
Fabric: This cotton-linen canvas is composed of 60% cotton and 40% linen. This proportion was carefully chosen to blend the crinkled appeal of a linen fabric with the tough appearance of cotton. The fabric has a full and rounded hand feel, which betrays the linen content and combines well with the rough approach used in the pattern cutting. On close inspection, this canvas has an irregular “flamed” surface due to the use of a “slub” linen yarn.
Trims: Lacquered brass cupped-shank buttons on the waist and – in a slightly smaller size – on the fly. These are designed to wear through to brass, over time. Black Rabbit Shinden II Pants have a red Tranche II label inside.
