Three Steps For How to Take Care of All Kinds of Red Wing Shoes

How to Take Care of Your Red Wing Shoes

Clean With Suede Cleaner

We recommend Red Wing’s own Suede Cleaner Kit for all roughouts. Lightly rub the edge of the Suede Bar over the stained areas. For deep stains, apply more pressure.

If the stain still remains, wet both the Suede Bar and the stain with clean water and repeat the rubbing action. Let the leather dry, then apply Suede Bar to remove water spots. Brush up the boot with the Suede Brush.

Condition with Mink Oil

For Muleskinner leather apply Mink Oil. Abilene and Mohave leathers require no conditioner.

Protect With Leather Protector

As with the oil tanned leathers you can protect your Red Wing roughouts with Leather Protector.

To extend the life of the boots you can also spray them with the Protector before wearing them for the first time.

IMPORTANT for Roughouts

Do not at anytime use Leather Cleaner for roughout leathers as it may stain and change the texture of the leather.

Red Wing smooth leather care

Smooth Finished Leathers

The third group is the smooth finished leathers, which include the Featherstone and the Chaparral leathers. These full finished leathers have a smooth, polished surface. Featherstone is Red Wing’s premium leather used in the Beckman collection. By hand-selecting only the finest hides, the master tanner produces a leather that’s not only beautiful but also abrasion resistant.

Chaparral is water, stain and perspiration resistant and can be polished to restore color and luster.

Clean with Leather Cleaner

Again, remove excess dirt from the boots. The cleaning procedure resembles that of the oil tanned leathers: warm water, a clean cloth and soft bristle brush. With the smooth finished leather the Leather Cleaner also comes in handy, always remember to remove the cleaner with a damp cloth and allow the leather to dry.

Condition with Boot Creme

Apply Boot Cream with a clean soft cloth and shine the boot by brushing with a soft horse-hair brush.

Protect with Leather Protector

The Leather Protector is once again the way to go for extra protection.

If you like to see how it’s done on all three leather groups, our friends from the Red Wing Shoes store in Amsterdam has put together this video:

This website is super helpful though I’m still having a difficult time finding out how to care for my boots, specifically. I have the Red Wings 414 8″ men’s work boot with gambler leather. The Red Wings website says I’ll just need the leather protector and naturseal but neither of those condition or oil. I’m a farmer and my boots get dirty and dry as all get out. Thoughts?

I have the same pair and have been cleaning mine real well and then using Naturseal on them about twice a year. My boots still look and feel great. I was reading online about naturseal and it says it waterproofs AND conditions so i gave it a try and am very impressed so far. Hope this helped!

I stumbled across this site looking for information on redwings. I am a 59 year old geologist and I have to say, I laughed my ass off at the comments and articles. WTF? Is this for real? People try to look “blue collar and pay idiotic sums of money for work clothes – and men obsessing about fashion?….LOL! holy shit!
This is the most hilarious crap I have seen on the net. Let me tell you… you will get your ass beat to a bloody pulp and tossed off the drilling site for this kind of sissy shit. My god this is funny and pathetic at the same time. Thanks for the laugh!

The compulsion to perform violence on someone for caring about how they dress is probably not the truest expression of masculinity either.

LOL! Well Tim, let me clarify, I am not suggesting such crimes be committed. What I am sharing is the reality of life on drill rigs, where regular men do actual work. Tim, have you ever worked with drillers? I kinda doubt it. One thing thats not tolerated is pretentious bullshit. From. what I read on this site, this is pretentious bullshit – ie. posers of no substance. Enjoy your “shoe shopping”

I’ve been surfing online more than three hours lately,
but I by no means discovered any attention-grabbing
article like yours. It’s lovely value enough for me. In my view, if all webmasters
and bloggers made good content as you probably did, the web will probably be much more useful than ever before.
