Dumluck’s “The Third”: Is This the Future of Denim?

Shifting Paradigm in the Denim Community

I’ll totally throw up my hands and tell you that until recently I was all but clueless about the world of contemporary fashion or filthy fast fashion. That is until I saw the influences from heritage, seeping through into streetwear, and dudes normally decked out in heritage were sporting streetwear brands.

The lines are blurring guys, no doubt about it.

A lot of what I saw when first peering into this seemed to be taking staples and making them longer. Long bombers, longline hoodies, and for whatever reason skirts sewn onto sweat pants. I’ll never get that.

Anyway, terms like reverse layering started being bandied about. As much as we hate to admit it, these looks struck a chord. The guys who pulled it off looked fucking cool. People, even the heritage lot, took notice.

Get Used To the Lingo, It’s Here to Stay

Now, let’s get back to our beloved heritage.

Back in the day, shirts were a lot longer. The front and backs were heavily tailed with a scoop at the side to avoid bunching. Miners securely tucked in their shirts to stop gravel running down their butt cracks. If you look to the Levi’s classic western shirt you’ll see a good example of this.

Over the years, fashions and professions changed the need for the long tails became less and less and The man with the bottom line wanted to scrimp on fabric. Shirts became shorter and shorter.

This is why the ACT S shirt is so on point. It touches base with both heritage and contemporary fashion. Us heritage boys can see the history in it whilst the fashion lot can see the style points. It is an important distinction to make and also important to point out that these are opposite ends of the same stick.

Dumluck is Bridging the Gap

Brands like Dumluck are the essential bridge from the dwindling boom in heritage to what heritage inspired fashion can eventually, and hopefully, become. That is contemporary fashion with the ethics and quality of heritage garments.

These brands are situated in a place both geographically and philosophically where the heart of denim is beating strongest. With The Third collection, Dumluck shines through and takes us down a pretty interesting path. I personally can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
