Reviving Lost Construction In a Different Denim Era with ENDRIME
With ENDRIME, Mohsin looks back a bit further and he’s especially inspired by early tailoring. Because, in his words, that’s where denim comes from; tailoring.
“Initially, I wanted to do ENDRIME because I thought there was something missing in the industry. I still think that way even today.”
Mohsin points out that, due to his respect and care for ‘lost construction,’ he aspires to brands like Rising Sun and Warehouse. Not saying they do the same, but the construction methods and workmanship share similarities.
“The thing is, we need a modern day pant. We might need an iPhone pocket. Back in the 1870s, they had a match pocket – that’s what the coin pocket was originally called. It was for the miners. But we don’t need a match pocket anymore. Everything is there for a reason.”
As Mohsin rightly argues, people often think about the Golden Era for denim as being the 1950s, but they forget that’s when things started getting mass-produced as well.
“In the 1950s, when everything became commercialised, they started inventing machines to speed up the process.”
As the denim community is very active on forums and commenting on articles, ENDRIME has both positive and negative reviews. People often compare your work to iconic cuts and downgrade it. Is this something you take into account or do you keep working as you feel best?
“I avoid the comment section. I definitely don’t look at it anymore, I used to but not anymore.
I think there will always be people that are trolling, having the need to say something. But every person that sees ENDRIME up-close and looks at how it is made are amazed by it.”
Trusting His Own Judgement To Deliver a Premium Product
Mohsin tries not to fuzz on comments. He respects all who have an opinion, but he tries to educate them rather than go into a discussion about subjective opinion.
He also trusts his own judgement; the same judgement that has served him well in the past, presence, and likely also will do so in the future. Having worked for many different companies, Mohsin knows what works in the markets on a global scale.
In the end, ENDRIME also offers regular fits similar to iconic cuts, but Mohsin believes the brand is catering for someone different.
“It’s so well made; it’s more premium than some other brands that claim to be premium. Not that I want to prove anyone wrong, but if you are about to spend over $300 on a pant then I feel it should be made better, more tailored, using the best materials.”
